What you will need
- 300 Mililitres of Double Cream
- 300 Grams of Wholemeal flour
- 225 Mililitres of Milk
- 200 Grams of Plain Flour
- Small handful of Chives
- 1 Teaspoon of Salt
- 1 Teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda
- 2 Teaspoons of Honey
- 1 Lemon
Before you start cooking, remember to wash your hands!
1. First pour the double cream into a jar and shake to seperate the butter from the buttermilk.
2. Line a seive with a piece of muslin or a clean cloth, then add the butter and buttermilk and gently squeeze all of the buttermilk into a jug.
3. Now put the butter into a bowl, add the chopped chives and a pinch of salt and stir everything together.
4. Now add some more buttermilk to the jug, squeeze in the halves of lemon and add the honey. Then give everything a stir and set to the one side.
5. Add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to a bowl of plain flour.
6. Now add the plain flour to the wholemeal flour, then add a teapsoon of salt, pour in the buttermilk and stir.
7. Shape the dough into a ball and place onto an oven tray, and make a deep cross on top for good luck!
8. Ask a grown up to place into the oven for 40 minutes.
9. Allow to cool before slicing and serving with homemade butter.
